• Authorities have confirmed that the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle within President William Ruto’s motorcade on March 13 was Edgar Charles Frederick, a 75-year-old British national who was widely known in the area for his interactions with traders and his longstanding support for vulnerable residents.

The incident took place near Adams Arcade along Ngong Road as the presidential convoy moved through the city during what marked the fourth day of Ruto’s tour focused on urban development, with those present at the scene describing a fast-moving motorcade that did not come to a halt following the impact.

In an official statement on Thursday, National Police Service Spokesperson Michael Muchiri indicated that the body of the deceased had been transported to Lee Funeral Home, where post-mortem examinations and further inquiries would be conducted as part of the broader process to establish responsibility for the fatal collision.

According to Muchiri, the vehicle believed to have been involved has undergone a formal inspection, while the driver, who is attached to the office of the Nairobi Regional Coordinator, has been granted temporary release on cash bail as legal procedures continue, with an appearance in court expected at a later stage.

Eyewitnesses reported that Frederick was making his way to a nearby mosque for prayers at the time of the accident, a routine that many in the neighbourhood were familiar with, as he was known for assisting destitute families by providing them with meals and financial aid, a fact confirmed by several traders and residents who recalled his generosity.

One woman who had interacted with him only a day before the incident described how she had been able to purchase meals for her family using money he had handed her, a testament to his longstanding role in supporting those struggling with hardship along Ngong Road.

Multiple people who were present when the accident occurred stated that at least two vehicles within the convoy were travelling at high speed when one struck the elderly pedestrian, with another vehicle in the procession running over him moments later, causing instant death as horrified bystanders watched.

Video clips that surfaced online shortly after the tragedy captured the urgency of the moment, with members of the public reacting in shock as the motorcade moved forward without stopping, while further recordings taken moments later depicted a gathering crowd expressing dismay at the unfolding scene.

  • Veteran pilot Colonel (Rtd) James Gitahi Nguyo lost his life in a tragic road accident at Kyumvi Junction on Mombasa Highway after his vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming lorry and burst into flames.

Gitahi, the husband of nominated Senator Betty Batuli Montet, was alone in the car when the crash occurred on Wednesday, March 5, at around 5:30 pm.

Witnesses said he was overtaking another lorry when he misjudged the distance of an approaching truck. The impact sent his vehicle off the road, where it caught fire, trapping him inside.

Emergency responders were unable to reach him in time, and he was burned beyond recognition.

Gitahi, a retired military pilot, had continued flying commercial fixed-wing aircraft at Wilson Airport.

He and his family lived in Maanzoni and also had a residence in Nairobi’s Nyari area.

The lorry driver sustained a fractured left leg and was hospitalized.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash.

  • Ousted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has furthered his bare-knuckle attack at President William Ruto warning him against purging Chief Justice Martha Koome.
Speaking in Meru on Sunday, Gachagua alleged that President Ruto is hatching a plot to oust CJ Koome for failing to play to his tune, a move he has vowed will not go unchecked.

In a fiery tone, the former second-in-command dared Ruto to orchestrate Koome's removal, warning that he would never be welcome in Meru.

"She is being fought because she has refused to be a 'yes sir' person. If you chase our Martha Koome don't set foot in Meru. You chased Rigathi Gachagua and the Mt. Kenya people were silent you thought they were cowards," he said.

"We are telling you, if you dare plan to chase Martha Koome, stay in Nairobi and do not step in Meru again."

He urged his former boss, now turned foe, to instead take on fights with his ilk and leave the CJ alone

You fought with me because I am a man, leave Matha Koome alone she is a woman, why are you fighting women? Can you fight your fellow men?

Gachagua further blamed political leaders in Meru for being silent while the alleged purge was ongoing, accusing them of taking bribes from the top office to remain mum.

"Martha Koome is being chased out and the Senator is silent, all the 10 MPs are silent. What is happening to the people of Meru? These are the descendants of the Mau Mau. What has happened to the leadership of Meru?" he posed.

The embattled politician threatened if Koome is ousted, he will mobilise Meru residents to take the streets against the State, noting that the alleged onslaught from the State against the Mt. Kenya region is unbecoming.

"Huyu mama akifukuzwa, nipige firimbi mtoke kwa bararaba mtatoka, hamtatoka? We are not going to sit again as William Ruto destroys the leadership of Mt. Kenya. It's too much it cannot be," he noted.
