Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been sentenced to 12 years in prison or a fine of Ksh 53.5 million.
Waititu was handed a five-year jail term or a fine of Ksh 2.5 million.
The court also imposed a mandatory fine of Ksh 51 million, failure to pay leading to an additional seven years in prison.
His conviction stems from irregular tender awards in Kiambu County in February 2018.
Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki ruled that Waititu’s actions were a breach of public trust.
Waititu’s wife, Susan Wangare, was fined Ksh 500,000/one year in prison.

Luka Mwangi Wahinya, former Chief Officer for Roads in Kiambu, was sentenced to two years or a fine of Ksh 1 million.
He was also fined Ksh 20 million, failure to pay leading to five years in prison.
Testimony Enterprises Limited directors, Charles Chege Mbuthia and Beth Wangeci Mburu, received jail terms of four years and three years respectively.
Mbuthia was fined Ksh 2 million with an additional mandatory fine of Ksh 294 million.
Wangeci was fined Ksh 1.4 million.
The court criticised the accused for forgery of academic credentials, calling it a serious concern.
Waititu, his wife, and the co-accused were barred from holding public office for ten years.
The court ordered the return of confiscated documents, including passports, cash bail, and title deeds.
Waititu and the co-accused have 14 days to appeal the ruling.
