Kenya Railways initiates an environmental and social impact study in preparation for the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu.

The 262-kilometre Phase 2B route has already been marked, with a technical team assessing potential impacts and consulting affected communities.

The project includes a new lake port in Kisumu and a railway link to enhance connectivity with Mombasa.

Officials have stated that the extension will improve freight and passenger transport while facilitating trade within Kenya and neighbouring countries.
